Safe and Secure for Pratt & Whitney
One of Trifibres recent assignments was commissioned by Pratt & Whitney, the major Canadian based aircraft engine manufacturer. One of the main functions of P&W’s UK based engineering centre, is the service of jet engines in the field. This can mean travelling anywhere in the UK, Europe or even the Middle East. To ensure that they always have the correct tools available for a specific engine type, a customised mobile tool chest was designed and manufactured by Trifibre. This was not any normal kind of tool chest, but one which could take large, heavy tools and extractors – all fitted into customised foam pockets.
Each draw was designed to take a significant weight, and special locking draw slides were employed, each draw slide has the capability of taking 250kg. A rugged flight case shell was used, with 6 heavy duty castors on a reinforced base suitable for fork lifting. A removable front cover completes the package. This exercise was a challenge for the Trifibre engineers who had to design a unit to take a significant amount of equipment in a plan size of a standard pallet for cost effective shipping.
